Course Description

  

Horse care

· Intermediate horse care, stall care, doctoring, hoof care. 

· In depth tack - saddles, bits, spurs, ropes, etc. 

· Tacking up multiple horses and trail ride prep

· Proper nutrition and feeding

· Intro to packing and outfitting

Camping

· Building camp

· Camp Cooking

· Knife skills/safety.

· Fire Building

Survival Skills

· Orienteering – Top maps/navigation

· Emergency Management 

· Basic First Aid

· Fire Building 

Horse training and communication

· Basics of horse training 

· Groundwork

· Horsemanship and riding

· Roping

· Cattle work

Trail Riding - leading trail rides 

· Communication with participants on safety, etc

· Proper assignment of horse to rider

· Evaluation of rider abilities

· Trail work and etiquette 

Truck/trailer work – trailer evaluation and safety 

· Hooking up to different styles of trailers. 

· Moving trailer including backing up and parking. 

· Loading/unloading horses and tack. 

· How to haul multiple horses safely. 

· Trailer maintenance and recommended equipment.
